About

Since childhood, the American West has been the heart of my inspiration, the lens through which I see and create. From a young age, I felt a pull to the desert stemming from visits to New Mexico; I was captivated by its vast landscapes and enduring mystery—qualities I strive to evoke in my oil paintings. I now know that the magic I felt in the land of enchantment was inspiration. I travel there yearly, drawn by the silence, shifting light, and ancient beauty that pervade the land, hoping to return with even just a glimpse of the grandeur, using these elements to shape my artistic vision.

I’ve forged my own path in my practice, allowing my creative process to remain unfiltered and entirely my own. My work is free from convention and reflects a raw, instinctual vision unvented and uninfluenced by formal training. Mother Nature is my mentor, and I’ve found her best lessons are taught in stillness with her surrounding me, observing what she has to teach. To me, painting is an act of surrender—an intentional willingness to lose myself in the process, embracing the uncertainty of where it will lead. I let go of knowing when a piece will be finished or how it will be perceived, trusting that the journey itself will reveal what it’s meant to be.

By premixing my colors, I approach the canvas like a mosaic, placing each tone deliberately to create a form with minimal blending, embracing the transformative power of color and texture. This deliberate preparation allows me to focus on the sculptural quality of paint, layering it to create rich, tactile surfaces that mimic the natural world's complexity. By layering and building texture, I invite the viewer to engage visually and physically, as each brushstroke evokes a sense of depth and presence. I aim to bridge the gap between two-dimensional representation and the three-dimensional experience, allowing the vibrancy of color and the intricacy of texture to coexist in a dynamic dialogue. From a distance, the artwork reveals its overall composition, yet as one moves closer, the intricate interplay of sculpted textures and carefully placed colors unfolds a deeper narrative. So, I implore you to move closer. Take another step and hear the wind, the only presence for miles, whistling through the canyons. Feel the mist from a roaring waterfall and bask in the warmth of a setting sun.

My work seeks to expand the narrative of the American West, offering a perspective often untold from a complex and diverse heritage. Through landscapes, animals, and visionary influences, I invite viewers to immerse themselves in the West’s complex beauty, where nature and history converge to offer a deeper, more inclusive understanding of this iconic region.
